Director of Finance
Haystack Recruitment has partnered with one of British Columbia’s most established and respected real estate development companies to recruit a Director of Finance. For more than five decades, our client has delivered high-quality residential communities across the Lower Mainland and continues to grow its portfolio of exceptional projects.
Reporting directly to the Owners and Principals, the Director of Finance will play a central role in the financial leadership and overall success of the organization and its affiliated entities.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee core business operations, including the design and implementation of reporting systems, internal controls, and operational procedures; evaluate new projects; manage project closings and funding; oversee cash-flow management, accounts payable/receivable, and related processes and policies.
- Lead, mentor, and ensure the smooth day-to-day functioning of the Accounting Department.
- Provide strategic financial advice and support to the Principals on business issues including financing strategy, acquisitions, and overall company direction.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with external partners, including accounting firms, law firms, banks, external auditors, insurers, realtors, and government auditors; keep the executive team informed of relevant issues.
- Support the Development team with proformas, disclosure statements, building closings, and change management.
- Collaborate with the executive team on the review of asset procurement, sales, construction contracts, and lease agreements.
- Oversee all accounting and financial reporting (internal and external) for the group of affiliated companies.
- Assist the Principals in negotiating and securing bank financing for acquisitions, development, and construction projects.
- Prepare and analyze cash-flow projections, budgets, and forecasts.
- Review calculations related to asset procurement, sales, construction, and lease contracts.
- Develop long-range business plans, including projections of taxable income, cash flow, and capital requirements.
- Oversee tenant management and leasing activities.
- Lead year-end audits for the group of companies, maintain robust internal controls, and prepare annual corporate budgets.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- Professional accounting or finance designation (CPA or equivalent).
- 5–7 years of progressive financial leadership experience; solid real-estate development experience is a strong asset.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, influence, and engage both direct and indirect reports as well as peers.
- Self-motivated, strong problem-solver, and results-oriented.
- Energetic, adaptable, collaborative, and proactive; a natural team leader who can drive both strategic and day-to-day finance and administrative initiatives.
- Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills with the ability to work effectively with senior leadership and external stakeholders.
- Capacity to operate equally well as a tactical executor and strategic thinker.
- Knowledge of current and emerging requirements in the real-estate development market.
